As Zhang was in college, she majored in chemical engineering studies as she took voice acting lessons. Her passion for science and curiosity helped her feel connected to Mei.

Zhang has experience with voice acting for characters in Chinese, but Mei was her first character that she would need to record lines for in English. She has experience with other titles from Blizzard other than Overwatch.

1. Mei's "Sorry" Voice Line was Accidentally Created
The “Sorry! Sorry! I’m sorry. Sorry.” is an authentic apology from Zhang. Since English is not Zhang's first language, when recording English voice lines she occasionally makes a mistake and apologizes a lot. One of her many apologies was recorded and Blizzard thought it would be a great voice line for Mei.
