Anthony E. Fahnestock, an investment manager in Manhattan, died of cancer on Monday at home in Navesink, N.J. He was 52 and also lived in Brooklyn.

For the past seven years Mr. Fahnestock was a partner and the senior vice president of Desai Capital Management, where he helped oversee investments in growth companies such as Au Bon Pain, Loehmann’s and Snapple Beverage.

Earlier he worked two years as a managing director of Donaldson Enterprises Inc., a private management company, and three years as a general partner of Coady, Fahnestock & Co., an investment banking firm.

From 1969 to 1980 he worked for Goldman, Sachs & Co., where he was a general partner and vice president of corporate finance. He began his career in 1964 at Morgan Guaranty Trust, where he became an assistant treasurer. He was also a director on the boards of 10 companies.

Mr. Fahnestock was born in Manhattan. After graduating from Williams College, he earned a master’s degree in business administration at Harvard.

He is survived by his wife, Andrea Henderson; two daughters, Lisa of Manhattan and Jenny of Chicago; his mother, Valerie of Jupiter; and a brother, Richard of Southport, Conn.
