DELRAY BEACH: Decisions, decisions. I couldn’t make one, so I made the mistake of trying all four of the new Arby’s Market Fresh sandwiches. It was difficult to decide which was my favorite: the Roast Beef & Swiss, Roast Turkey & Swiss, Roast Ham & Swiss or the Roast Chicken Caesar ($3.99 each). Finally, the Roast Chicken Caesar won out.

The one thing that all four sandwiches have in common is the honey-wheat bread. This bread is so good that I would buy a loaf of it if they sold it. These are deli-style sandwiches. The Caesar one had a generous portion of shaved chicken on a bed of fresh leaf lettuce, sweet red onions and parmesan cheese all topped with a very tasty tangy dressing.

The sandwiches are so big that I could only eat half at one sitting. I saved the other half for lunch the next day. It’s a good thing that I did, too, as I found out afterward that each sandwich has a little more than 800 calories. That’s almost half of my intake for the day.

The sandwiches were wrapped in special paper and placed in a paper bag along with little packages of horseradish sauce and Arby’s sauce and napkins.

The Arby’s I stopped at is at 280 Linton Blvd., Delray Beach, 561-276-2729, on the south side of the road approximately a mile east of I-95. There are numerous Arby’s locations in South Florida.

A whole supermarket

FORT LAUDERDALE: It’s new. It’s beautiful. It’s trendy. It’s pricey. The former Whole Foods Bread of Life has now metamorphosed into an upscale Whole Foods supermarket with an emphasis on natural foods and products. The variety is vast. For example, a brochure states that the store has more than 500 products in the “scoop your own” bulk selection. I didn’t count, though. The time spent looking around provided the opportunity to taste free samples that abound. A tour of the fruit and vegetable section can also be a lesson in horticulture. There are exotic fruits and vegetables that I rarely see. It is well worth a visit.

My visit was to find a takeout that would go well with leftover egg noodles. In the Prepared Foods Section, I chose brisket of beef after tasting it and General Tso’s chicken. The beef was also a bargain because it was on special at $7.99 a pound instead of the regular $12.99. When I arrived home, it took me a few minutes to ready the egg noodles and a salad, but the beef brisket warmed up just fine with a minute in the microwave. It was sliced thickly, so I cut the pieces into smaller chunks to serve. This brisket was more like a stew. It included, in addition to the beef, onions, carrots, tomato paste, garlic, bay leaf, rosemary, thyme and flour to thicken the gravy. It was tender, moist and delicious.

Whole Foods Market, 2000 N. Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale, 954-565-7423, is on the east side of Federal between Sunrise and Oakland Park boulevards.
