Currently, he works for Pittsburgh Penguins at AT&T SportsNet Pittsburgh as a color analyst, he also works together with Steve Mears. Additionally, he works at NHL Network during the 2007 Stanley Cup Playoffs as a night highlight show analyst.

Bob got drafted during the 1983 Pittsburgh Penguins at 15th position overall. Before he played from Peterborough, Ontario in the 1977 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament with a minor ice hockey team, he also went for the Ontario Hockey League with Peterborough Petes, playing junior ice hockey between 1980 to 1983.

Bob is mostly renowned for his time with Pittsburgh Penguins but he also played for the New York Rangers, San Jose Sharks, Detroit Red Wings, Dallas Stars, and the Buffalo Sabres, He won two Stanley Cups as a member of the Penguins In 1991 and 1992, furthermore, he appeared with Detroit in the 1995 Stanley Cup Finals and as a member of Team Canada, he won the 1997 World Championships.

He played in the NHL before retiring in 1999 for the Hartford Wolf Pack during the entire 1998-1999 game season, also he worked during the 1993 to 1994 season and part of 1995 as the San Jose Sharks captain. Also, he frequently works at TSN as an analyst and covers the IIHF World Hockey Championships. During his ice hockey career, he played for the New York Rangers, Buffalo Sabres, San Jose Sharks, Detroit Red Wings, Dallas Stars, and Pittsburgh Penguins.
