There’s a Broward connection to Miami-Dade County’s newest circuit court judge, Nushin G. Sayfie, appointed Tuesday by Gov Charlie Crist.

The name is familiar to people in Broward political circles, because her spouse, Justin Sayfie, is a well-known Fort Lauderdale lawyer. What many people don’t know is that the couple lives three blocks south of the county line separating Broward and Miami-Dade counties.

Justin Sayfie is a former communications director to former Gov. Jeb Bush, and publisher of the Sayfie Review, a Web site that aggregates political news from outlets across the state that’s considered a must read for political insiders.

The new judge, 39, graduated from Georgetown University and the Fordham University Law School. She’s currently an assistant public defender.

Sayfie will fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Judge Cristina Pereyra-Shuminer for a term that ends Jan. 3, 2011.

“Nushin holds a deep appreciation for the principles of our nation’s judicial system and, at the same time, respect and compassion for all individuals involved in the process, from defendants and witnesses, to jurors and counselors,” Crist said.
