Chris Osgood Biography

Chris Osgood is a well-known former professional ice hockey goaltender from Canada. He is currently employed with Bally Sports Detroit as a Detroit Red Wings studio analyst and part-time color commentator. He won three Stanley Cups in his career, all with the Red Wings, with two of them coming as a rookie goaltender. With 401 wins, he moved into eleventh place in NHL regular-season history.

In Detroit, he was recognized by the nicknames “Ozzie,” which was screamed by the fans following a good save, and “The Wizard of Oz.” He was the final NHL goalie to use a classic player’s helmet/cage combo rather than the newer one-piece goalie mask until Rick DiPietro briefly wore one of Osgood’s after he was injured in a fight with Brent Johnson in 2011.
