More than 500 guests celebrated all things Southern at the Atlantis’ JFK Medical Center Foundation’s recent Magnolia by the Sea luncheon at The Breakers in Palm Beach. The event raised money for Palm Beach County cancer charities.
Actress Dixie Carter, best known for her role on Designing Women, was the keynote speaker and inspired guests as she discussed her book, Trying to Get to Heaven: Opinions of a Tennessee Talker, and took part in a question-and-answer session.
“Dixie was our first speaker who was not a cancer survivor. Listening to her approach, people were fairly responsive,” said co-chairwoman Madelyn Passarella. “Her story was very personal and she was very delightful.”
Steering committee members included Atlantis residents Prudie Anderson, JoNett Butler, Trish Callow, Judy Cunningham, Nancy Hogan, Vicki Rautbord, Chris Silva, Carla Spurlock, Trish Akers Tackett, Marilyn Tuppen, Kellie Kintz, Sharon Oyman, Carolyn Harsh and Lourdes Holyfield; Gloria Hakkarainen of West Palm Beach; Beverlee Miller of Boynton Beach; and former Lake Worth Mayor Thomas Ramiccio.
James and Sara Ann Kintz of Atlantis served as event chairs. Festivities included a silent and chance auction as well as a raffle.
