Does Sarah Die in Days Gone?

In the opening scene of Days Gone, Deacon puts a wounded Sarah on a helicopter to extract her from the zombie-infested area and bring her to a Nero Checkpoint. The game then cuts to Deacon in the present day, who lives under the assumption that Sarah is dead after finding the Nero Checkpoint overrun by zombies.

A clue from O'Brien indicates that Sarah might have been evacuated before the checkpoint was overrun, so Deacon heads south in search of her. He finds her working as a medical officer for a newly formed militia group.

Once the two lovers are reunited, they make plans to flee that are interrupted by a massive conflict that destroys Wizard Island. The two survive and escape together, getting a classic happily-ever-after ending.
