No, it’s not total mayhem.
The scene may look alarming with emergency lights near the U.S. Post Office at 1900 West Oakland Park Boulevard in Oakland Park, but it’s all just a test.
Several agencies plan to participate in the emergency preparedness drill beginning at 10 a.m. Thursday. Although there may be a heavy law enforcement and fire-rescue presence near the post office between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., postal service business and transactions will not be disrupted, officials say.
The post office’s retail lobby and delivery operations are expected to be operating normally. Postal police officers will be present to let customers know any noises or simulated gunshots they hear are only part of an exercise drill, Postal Inspector Blad Rojo said.
Most of the exercises will be taking place in a restricted area inaccesible to the public.
Broward Sheriff’s Office, Fort Lauderdale Police and Fire-Rescue, Wilton Manors police and Oakland Park Fire Department will be participating in the drill, Rojo said.
