The Fortnite Season 5, Week 9 loading screen was leaked Thursday by data miners, as was another that could be for the season's final week.
Posted by Fortnite data miners TwoEpicBuddies in a series of tweets, the loading screens depict two scenes near the mysterious purple cube. In the first, two characters stand by while a third is struck by electricity arcing from the cube. In the second, a character eyes the cube warily while her reflection smiles back at her.
Both seem designed to deepen the mystique of the cube that has dominated Fortnite discussions since its appearance Aug. 24. Fans have tracked the cube's whereabouts and guessed its purpose. TwoEpicBuddies claimed to have discovered the cube's ultimate destination Wednesday, but have yet to offer an explanation for its existence.
Fortnite Patch 5.40 and the new High Stakes event are set to arrive Thursday after Epic Games delayed their release Tuesday because of a controller glitch.
