Four South Florida lawyers were stripped of their licenses to practice law by the state Supreme Court, the Florida Bar announced Thursday.
David Bradley Dohner, of Hallandale Beach; Peter U. Mayas, of Plantation; Alex J. Pearlberg, of Sunrise; and David Joseph Berger, of North Miami Beach, were each disbarred in January, according to the Florida Bar.
Pearlberg was found in contempt of court last August for his conduct in several cases, according to the Bar. In separate incidents, he was accused of taking money from clients and then doing nothing on their cases. He was ordered to pay a total of $12,700 in restitution. Last year he was criminally charged with writing worthless checks. The case is pending.
Mayas, admitted to the Bar in 2003, was accused of charging excessive fees for federal cases even though he was not permitted to practice in federal court. According to the Bar, he also failed to show up for hearings while representing a client on criminal charges in a state case.
Berger, a solo practitioner who was admitted to the Bar in 2010, was suspended last year after he was accused of abandoning his practice and misappropriating clients’ funds.
Dohner, who began practicing in 1994, was suspended in 2014. A Bar complaint accused him of agreeing to represent five clients but failing to do any work for them. He also practiced alone.
The former attorneys did not respond to email requests for comment Thursday.
