During the period of time that George Schloegel served as Mayor of Gulfport, from 2003 to 2013, he exhibited extraordinary leadership and took a forward-thinking approach to the city’s expansion and development.
His efforts continued far after he had left office, as he remained an active and powerful figure in a large number of organizations that were committed to developing better leaders and boosting the quality of life in Gulfport and throughout the whole Mississippi Gulf Coast. When he was elected Mayor of Gulfport in 2009, it was the fulfillment of a goal he’d had since childhood. George Schloegel was born on June 17, 1940, and began his road to leadership as a high school student working in the basement of Hancock Bank.
