George Schloegel Obituary, Death Cause – The city of Gulfport, Mississippi, as well as the surrounding community, is in a state of mourning following the passing of former Mayor George Schloegel, who was a wonderful leader and committed public servant. Early on Friday morning, George Schloegel died away at the age of 83. He left behind a legacy of civic involvement, community engagement, and unshakable commitment to the improvement of the Gulfport area.

This was the beginning of a long and successful career for Schloegel. Because of his unwavering commitment to his profession and his tireless work ethic over the course of his career, he was eventually promoted to the position of president of the bank. Before he finally called it quits in 2008, his brilliant career in finance had already extended an astounding 52 years. George Schloegel had tremendous success in the banking industry, but his ambitions went much beyond the confines of a traditional office setting.

The fact that he had been cultivating the desire he now had to serve the community in this capacity ever since he was just 12 years old is a monument to his unwavering loyalty to the city that he loved. During the period of time that George Schloegel served as Mayor of Gulfport, from 2003 to 2013, he exhibited extraordinary leadership and took a forward-thinking approach to the city’s expansion and development.

His efforts continued far after he had left office, as he remained an active and powerful figure in a large number of organizations that were committed to developing better leaders and boosting the quality of life in Gulfport and throughout the whole Mississippi Gulf Coast. When he was elected Mayor of Gulfport in 2009, it was the fulfillment of a goal he’d had since childhood. George Schloegel was born on June 17, 1940, and began his road to leadership as a high school student working in the basement of Hancock Bank.
