One step inside the Old Heidelberg Restaurant and you’re shipped halfway across the globe to Germany.
The restaurant was voted Best German Restaurant in our latest edition of Best of South Florida. Oktoberfest flags fly above the bar, which is covered in small, hand-painted tiles. The antique-looking paintings on the wall transport you to a cabin of a Grimm Brothers’ fairytale.
As the bartender that day put it, “it’s more of a restaurant with a lounge,” but the specials in the lounge keep the regulars coming back.
There are nine German beers on tap including Warsteiner, Lederer, Weihenstephaner Dark and Schofferhofer Grapefruit. These nine beers and all alcoholic beverages are between 50 cents or $1 off during happy hour, which is from 4-7 p.m. Monday through Friday.
With the purchase of a beer, you also receive access to a free small buffet. Dishes include homemade dishes such as pork meatloaf, pork goulash and mashed potatoes. The options change every day. Guests are invited to help themselves to multiple servings, as long as they’ve purchased a beverage.
Happy hour: 4-7 p.m. Monday – Friday
Recommended drink: Oktoberfest Spaten Munich beer ($5.50 for 16-oz)
