LOXAHATCHEE — Atlantic junior quarterback Lincoln Graf passed for 266 yards and accounted for four touchdowns to lift the Eagles past host Seminole Ridge 43-13 in a District 9-3M contest on Friday night.

Atlantic (6-1) will have an opportunity to clinch the district championship with a victory against Dwyer next Friday.

Atlantic committed two turnovers in the first quarter and trailed 7-0. The Eagles bounced back and led 21-7 at halftime.

“We went down and I love to just see the kids come out and overcome adversity,” Atlantic coach Jamelle Murray said. “We took ownership and accountability and made plays. I feel great about our kids and they have been working really well together and it’s starting to show.”

Graf had two passing touchdowns and rushed for another score during the second quarter. He also added a touchdown pass in the third quarter.

“We came out slow in the first quarter and we really stepped it up and ultimately came out with a win,” Graf said. “This game is a stepping stone. We just took what the defense gave us and were able to run the ball well in the second half.”

Atlantic sophomore wide receiver Mark Hanniford had nine catches for 160 yards and two touchdowns. Junior running back Jamie Simmons rushed for two touchdowns in the fourth quarter. Senior Josiah Haynes and freshman Horace Glenn III both recorded interceptions in the victory.

“We knew what we wanted to do and we just delivered,” Hanniford said. “It felt good.”

Seminole Ridge struggled after creating two turnovers on defense in the first quarter.

“I have to tip my hat off to Atlantic,” Seminole Ridge coach Chad Chieffalo said. “They ran a pro style offense and something we have not seen a whole lot from them yet. We tried to make adjustments. I think their size wore us down. We were a little bit outmatched. They were a more experienced team. We have a young group. We did a poor job executing. The future is very bright. I want to finish this season strong and win out and try to extend our season.”

Seminole Ridge junior linebacker Ty Jackson had a 64-yard fumble return for a touchdown in the first quarter and a 97-yard kickoff return for score in the fourth.

“Ty is an unbelievable football player and athlete,” Chieffalo said. “He is humble and a phenomenal kid.”

Seminole Ridge (5-2) had a 7-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. Jackson had a fumble recovery return for a touchdown to open the scoring with 8:52 left in the first.

Atlantic lost another fumble on the next possession as senior Toby Norton recovered the ball at the Hawks 12-yard line with 4:44 left in the first.

Atlantic responded in the second quarter. Graf rushed up the middle for a 4-yard touchdown run to tie the score with 9:05 left in the second.

The Hawks were unable to convert on fourth-and-2 at the Eagles 40 as junior quarterback Dylan Reid was stopped short on a run at the line of scrimmage.

The Eagles marched downfield on their next series. On fourth-and-goal at the 8, Graf connected with Hanniford for a scoring pass in the back of the end zone to make it 14-7 with 1:38 left in the second.

Haynes stepped up with an interception to give the Eagles the ball at the Hawks 37.

Graf fired a 25-yard touchdown pass to senior wide receiver Jadarius Patterson to increase the lead to 21-7 with 32 seconds remaining in the first half.

Atlantic recovered an onside kick to open the second half. On the first play on offense, Graf threw a deep pass and connected with Hanniford for a 48-yard touchdown.

The Eagles defense recorded a safety in the end zone late in the third quarter.

Simmons had a two-yard touchdown run to make it 36-7 in the fourth.

Jackson returned the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown for the Hawks.

Simmons added a 14-yard touchdown run with 59 seconds left.
