Sifu's Death Counter is one of the ways the game differentiates itself from its peers in the roguelite arena. The brawler uses the Death Counter to modify difficulty, buffing your damage while reducing your total health pool. Here's how to reset the Death Counter in Sifu.

But my age varies on my death counter!? #Sifu

How to Reset the Death Counter in Sifu

In Sifu, your character's age starts at 20. Each time you die, the Death Counter will increment by one, and then add that many years to your age. Your first death increases your age by one year, your second death by two, your third by three, and so on. In a matter of just four deaths, your age will have increased by 10 years.

That 10-year mark is important. Every 10 years of age, your damage will increase, but your total health will decrease. This means the more you die, the more deadly and fragile you will become. If your age passes 70, your next death will bring about a game over screen.

There are two ways to reduce your death counter in Sifu. For each special enemy you defeat, you'll reduce your Death Counter by one. These include certain 1-v-1 fights, certain groups of two enemies, and any enemy that's become enraged. Those enemies are marked by a smoke effect.

The other way to reduce your Death Counter is to spend 1,000 XP at any altar. This will completely reset your Death Counter.
