One of the most promising games to come out of Indonesia in recent years is the tropical life simulator, Coral Island by Stairway Games. The game is currently in Early Access on Steam and on Game Preview on the Game Pass.
In Coral Island, players are tasked with growing crops, nurturing animals, and befriend the islanders. Ultimately, players will have to decide whether to revitalise not only the town but also the surrounding coral reefs.
The game’s environmental message shines through in its gameplay, with players being able to dive and gather ocean kelp to permanently upgrade the quality of their farm’s output while also clearing the ocean floor of trash.
While the game is still not fully completed, Stairway Games have been very transparent with their progress by providing monthly updates. The latest announcements include an updated roadmap for the game, as well as the Merfolk and Fall Update coming in August.
Coral Island will soon introduce Merfolk characters into the cast, with the first being Princess Miranjani, whom the player can date in-game. Princess Miranjani is described as being sweet and kind, with curiosity as boundless as the galaxy.
This update also brings the last batch of ranch animals into the game, including Peafowls that have a chance to drop feathers for the player to craft with, and the Luwak, which can collect Gesha Coffee for the player.
Another upcoming quality-of-life improvement is the Sturdy Computer, which lets players order items online. This allows players to buy items instantly as well as receive real-time information about what materials have spawned in the in-game world.
Coral Island’s update roadmap includes more seasonal content for the in-game Winter season, mechanics that center around the player getting married and giving birth to children, and the implementation of a multiplayer mode.
Beyond that, Stairway Games has reassured players that the console versions of Coral Island are still being developed. Read more about Coral Island’s upcoming updates on their official website.
