By 9 a.m., the line was still out the door at the latest location and soft opening of Jupiter Donuts on National Donut Day on June 3.
The family- and friend-run business has four other locations in South Florida: Jupiter (opened in 2013 by Chris Stokes), North Palm Beach, Royal Palm Beach and Stuart.
“We’re really excited to be in Boynton Beach,” said Mitchelle Bonnema–Nobles, one of the partners, along with Stokes, Don Pascalli, and Chrystal and Adam Jones. Eddie Nobles is the operations manager.
Bonnema-Nobles, who formerly ran nutrition stores in Fort Pierce and Wellington, said she jumped at the chance to join Jupiter Donuts.
“We’re longtime friends, and when they approached me to join the business, I was excited for the opportunity,” she said.
The partners pride themselves on making their donuts fresh every night, with good ingredients and no production machines. All the donuts are hand-cut, hand-fried and hand-decorated.
They are “44 percent love, 43 percent passion, 12 percent artistry and 1 percent know-how,” the website states, along with the slogan “donuts that are out of this world.”
Besides donuts($10.99 a dozen), the store offers coffee drinks, bagels ($12.99 a dozen), breakfast sandwiches (with donuts, bagels or croissants) and homemade biscuits and gravy.
Paige Davis and Alejandro Beattie drove down from Jupiter for the opening. Beattie distributes Oceana coffee and makes deliveries to all the Jupiter Donut stores.
“I know I have to go early to make my deliveries,” he said. “Once they sell out, they close their doors until the next day.”
The two are both fans; Beattie chooses the red velvet donut with cream cheese topping while Davis prefers the butternut crunch donut.
Jupiter Donuts has more than 50 varieties, including their signature donuts, a maple-bacon bar topped with a slice of bacon and an apple fritter bear claw. Other varieties include a Boston cream donut, kronuts, M&M, Heath Bar and more than six different kinds of chocolate donuts.
Julie Nickels, a hairdresser from Boynton, stopped on her way home from the gym. She discovered Jupiter Donuts when she was called for jury duty in Palm Beach.
“It was too far to drive every day,” she said, “but now they’re right here in my neighborhood.”
She had her sights set on a maple bacon donut for that sweet and salty combination.
Leisureville residents Gail Hogue and Hazel Kowalik were also coming from the gym when they noticed the shop was open. They made a U-turn and came in to sample the goods.
“Everything smells good, so I know they will be good,” said Hogue, who wanted to try the plain donut. Kowalik wanted to sample the apple fritter.
“We heard good things about them,” Kowalik said.
Jupiter Donuts is at 2260 Woolbright Road in Boynton Beach. The store is open 7 days a week 6 a.m.–1 p.m. or until sell-out. Call 561-413-3830 or visit jupiterdonuts.com.
