Leslie Cockburn is a well-known American filmmaker and investigative journalist. Her investigative TV segments have been broadcast on 60 Minutes, PBS Frontline, NBC, and CBS. Furthermore, she was a Democratic nominee for Virginia’s 5th district in the U.S. House of Representatives in 2018. But she lost to Republican Denver Riggleman.
She started working for NBC News while staying in London. Among her reports was an interview with Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi. She then went to CBS in 1978 and covered six wars including the U.S.-directed Contra War against Nicaragua.

Together with her husband, Andrew Cockburn, in 1987 she created Guns, Drugs, and the CIA, a documentary that claimed the CIA assisted and encouraged drug trafficking. In 1990, she co-produced and co-authored with Peter Jennings and Tom Yellin, a documentary titled “From the Killing Fields.”
This was an ABC News documentary Peter Jennings Reporting, it alleged that the U.S. had conspiratorially supported the Khmer Rouge in its return to power in Cambodia. She has been awarded various awards like the George Polk Award, Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award, Alfred I. DuPont–Columbia University Award, The Hillman Prize, and an Emmy Award.
