A 35-year-old Hollywood man died Wednesday morning in a crash with two other drivers on Florida’s Turnpike in Davie just south of Interstate 595.

The driver of a 2013 Infiniti JX SUV was heading north on the turnpike just before 5 a.m., approaching I-595 and swerved into the path of the Hollywood man driving a 2017 Toyota RAV4 SUV. The front left side of the Infinti hit the right side of the Toyota, sending the Toyota spinning and into the concrete median wall, Florida Highway Patrol Lt. Indiana Miranda said.

The Infiniti driver, whose car ended up on the inside shoulder, fled the scene before troopers arrived and left the car abandoned, Miranda said. It is not known how he fled.

After the Toyota hit the concrete wall, it flipped multiple times and came to a stop blocking the center lane, where a 45-year-old Lauderhill man driving a 2018 Freightliner M2 cargo truck crashed into it, forcing the Toyota onto the inside shoulder, Miranda said. The cargo truck rotated and came to a stop on its side near the outside lane of the I-595 entrance ramp.

The Toyota driver was pronounced dead at the scene, and Davie Fire Rescue took freightliner driver to Broward Health Medical Center, Miranda said. He is expected to recover.
