She remained up all night watching the lightning from her bedroom window, rather than being upset or irritated. She decided meteorology was the right method for her to integrate her interests in Science, Math, Communication, and Public Service after years of choir and theater.
She grew to appreciate meteorology as she progressed through her four-year college education. She interned at several newsrooms across the country, including WI, KSL in Salt Lake City, UT, WKOW in Madison, and KOKH in Oklahoma City. She also worked as a weathercaster for her college newscasts, OU Nightly, throughout her undergraduate career. Marissa worked as a senior web content producer, weather producer, weather anchor, camera operator, and floor manager while at the company.
She also received multiple honors for her on-air work, including placing third in the country in the weathercaster competition for the 2019 Broadcast Education Association Award. She graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 2020 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorologist with concentrations in Math and Broadcast Journalism.
