League of Legends Patch 8.9 made universal changes to turrets that will help mages be more effective at taking towers in the game. The new patch goes live Wednesday and could have a large impact on gameplay.

According to the patch notes, AP to damage conversion will be buffed from 50 percent to 60 percent. Additionally, Riot Games wrote, "If a basic attack uses ability power bonus to turrets, the whole attack will convert to magic damage, rather than only the ability power scaling portion."

Champions who rely on building ability power will now have a more active role in objective play now that their damage is more effective against turrets. This change could potentially see mages be effective as split pushers as well.

Ziggs is one AP champion known for his ability to effectively destroy turrets, and this new change will only further push him as a threat to objectives. Other objective changes like the coming changes to Baron and Rift Herald are also in the pipeline.

League of Legends Patch 8.9 also includes significant changes to the way mana is used in the game and the addition of the Beemo and Blood Moon Evelynn skins.
