Ghana-born Lieutenant Colonel Nana Kofi Twumasi-Ankrah began his career working as a Blues and Royals squadron leader at The Household Cavalry Mounted Regimen, per his LinkedIn. He was also stationed in Kabul, Afghanistan as a principal staff officer for the Afghanistan National Army Training Group, and worked some other jobs before becoming an equerry to Queen Elizabeth from August 2017 to December 2020.

He now works for the UK Ministry of Defence, per his LinkedIn.

He’s Britain’s first Black equerry

Per The Telegraph, Twumasi-Ankrah, then aged 38, became the first Black equerry in the royal family when he was appointed the role in 2017.

He’s married

Twumasi-Ankrah is married to his wife Joanna Hanna-Grindall, who is a senior partnerships manager at the Victoria and Albert Museum, per her LinkedIn.

Per V&A’s official website, the couple tied the knot in a traditional Ghanaian ceremony in 2012, wearing garments made from matching fabric. The same source stated that they paid tribute to the Royal House of Amanokrom from which Twumasi-Ankrah is descended.
