My students struggle with conforming to behavior norms and need the space to be successful. Presently, we were able to get new chairs and couches in order to let them feel more comfortable to learn. However, right now I have traditional desks pulled up to these new chairs, which is still confining for these students. Students need the opportunity to feel free of limitations while in the classroom. This project will allow my students to feel comfortable while learning. I want to remove the reminders of the traditional classroom that held them back, and provide the opportunity for them to be themselves while learning. Presently, everyone must report to school so this will help to give a “home” feeling at school. It is hard for students with ADHD, ADD, and other emotional/behavioral problems to sit still during class. The throw pillows and seat cushions will be used for the traditional seats I have in class so that those students that choose a regular desk and chair can still have some comfort. The lapdesks and clipboards will provide the option to remove the traditional desks for the existing flex seating so they can relax in the furniture.
