A New York woman has been arrested in the murder of a woman who was found dead inside her Tamarac home in July.

Sakiyna Thompson, 28, of Springfield Gardens, was taken into custody on Wednesday by the New York Police Department and is expected to be extradited to Broward County to face one charge of first-degree murder.

After an investigation that lasted several weeks, Thompson was linked to the killing and an arrest warrant was issued on July 25, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said.

A 911 caller had reported an unresponsive woman in a home on Northwest 57th Street in Tamarac on July 13. She was declared dead at the scene.

The victim’s name is being withheld due to Marsy’s Law, a 2018 constitutional amendment that allows crime victims’ names and personal information to be shielded from the public.
