The first customer in the Spring Brothers Irish Pub on opening day in the Renaissance Commons was Boynton beach resident Brian Leo, the former owner of Heroes Sports Bar and Grill in Lantana.

“We need a great Irish bar here,” said Leo, who was born in Ireland and raised in New York. “I’ve been counting down the days.”

A Guinness ale in hand, Leo said he planned to stay put through the opening night celebration, which included live music by Rowan the Wanderer and Adam Jason.

Spring Brothers opened at 1500 Gateway Blvd., once the site of the Irish pub Slainte, which closed in 2014. The new owners, brothers Ryann and Christian Spring and Christian’s wife Sophie, may speak with a French accent, but they have an Irish spirit.

“I’m French, Swiss, Spanish and Irish,” said Christian Spring, who owns and operates similar establishments in Miami and Geneva.

Dressed in kilts, which Spring emphasizes are a Celtic tradition, waitress Carol (Kittie) Grajales, of Palm Beach Gardens, said, “I love working at Irish pubs. They’re usually more laid-back and fun.”

With the slogan on the bar, “There are no strangers, only friends you haven’t met yet,” the space radiates a warm and cozy feel. The Springs have refurbished it and added 23 new big-screen televisions. There is a private room in the back designated for parties.

The menu includes a selection of appetizers, including nachos ($10.90), a variety of chicken wings ($11.99) and coconut butterfly shrimp with hot chili sauce ($8.95).

The typical American and Irish fare includes burgers and hot dogs, with burgers starting at $11.50 for a cheeseburger and french fries, and sandwiches including ham and cheese ($9.95), turkey club ($9.95) and corned beef Reuben ($10.95).

Signature dishes include fish and chips ($12.50), shepherd’s pie, ($12.95), Bangers N’ Mash consisting of Irish sausage mashed potatoes and onion gravy ($12.95), Irish stew ($12.95) and of course, corned beef and cabbage ($11.90).

Entrees include truffle, crab ($17.90) or shrimp risotto ($14.90), seared salmon with Brussels sprouts and mashed potatoes ($14.90) or skirt steak with vegetables and homemade fries for $17.90.

The restaurant also serves breakfast.

“We like Boynton Beach,” said Sophie Spring. “The people are friendly and it’s a quiet, laid-back city.”
