Warframe Syndicate medallions are objects that can be traded for "Standing" with specific Syndicate´s enclaves.
You can collect up to eight per Syndicate Alert missions and each medallion rewards either 500, 1,000, or 5,000 Standing for that respective Syndicate.

Warframe Syndicate Medallions: How to Earn Medallions
It's important to note that Medallions can usually only be found during Daily Missions or as a Daily Tribute reward. Technically they can be found in most mission types but depending on the set up, they may not be found in Interception and Defense missions.
The best part about the Medallions is they don't count toward the daily Standing limit. So you can earn Standing in other ways then pop your medallions for a big boost!
